Protect Me, Mom and Dad….

cyber world

Modernization is just another jungle closing in. – Evelyn Waughn

Whether we like it or not, this jungle called modernization is unavoidable. Its influence on our children is unfathomable.  A family may prohibit or delay the use of internet at home, but let’s face it, everywhere else it is accessible.  Unless we want to seclude our family into the most isolated corner of the world, which is quite impossible, we have to deal with the dangers head on and face the responsibility affiliated with being parents in this era. One of the significant features of this era is the cyber world.

Cyber bullying is right up there together with other pressing problems. It has evolved along with technology. Bullies going to Facebook walls calling people names and or posting humiliating photos and the likes. A long time ago bullying was a huge school problem, well it is still now, only colossal in magnitude.  In our age of electronic gadgetries bullying has transcended into the cyber world. It has become more of a difficult job of looking after our kids compared to just visiting them at school or keeping watch over them in the school playground or yard.

Let us protect our children from this with familoop safeguard.

Now, with the advent of I-pads and i-phones and androids and all of these modern gadgets our kids bring, it is just impossible to be keeping track of who they are talking to or who they meet and what they are watching.  It definitely is a whole new level. While this modernization has tons of positive attributes it also comes with it a huge responsibility for us parents to be looking after our kids as there are dangers that lurk with every website that they click to. Children as early as two years old or even younger already know how to use a cellphone, an Ipad, or a tablet.  The ubiquiousity of these seem to permit an earlier cognitive, psychomotor, and affective consciousness in children. Familoop parental control helps parents monitor and control children’s activities online.

Pornography, perhaps, is the most common problem that we parents want to steer our kids away from. Pedophilia is not that far behind. Pedophiles have found their perfect instrument by browsing and surfing the internet looking at children photos all they want. Sexting is also a thing with phones nowadays where they send salacious messages be it through text or photos over the internet. Online safety for kids is of utmost importance to protect children and youth from these monstrosities.

What online precautionary measures do you  have at home?

Green Diaper

Modern times have definitely lessened the inconveniences of yesterday. Housekeeping, for instance, used to be an herculean task. However nowadays, technological advancements have made it easier.  Parents can now multi-task; doing the laundry, cooking, baking, and cleaning the house all simultaneously. Having a baby is another serious matter, but parents have modern conveniences to thank for – safety baby car seats and carriers, baby trolleys,   baby gears, disposable diapers, and much more must-haves to ease the responsibility and difficulty inherent to having a baby.

We have all these beautiful, very well appreciated conveniences on one hand, but unfortunately, as a consequence we have got on the other end of the spectrum important and pressing issues to deal with.

We have to face fairly and squarely the effects, by-products, and aftermaths of all the present comforts if we are to continue life in comfort.  Let’s take diapering for instance. It is very alarming to know that millions of tons of disposable diapers are discarded in landfills every year. If this rate continues year after year, will the convenience we have now worth the discomfort our kids might experience in the future?

Perhaps taking this into consideration as we decide on what diaper to use, would make a great difference.

Surprising Facts About Pediatrics You Probably Didn’t Know

Strictly speaking, a pediatrician is a doctor who specialises in the care of infants and young children. This means that if ever your child seems to encounter a particularly nasty illness or complaint, then the doctor you take them to will most likely be a pediatrician. Likewise, it will most likely be a pediatrician who advises you on the sorts of medicine, treatment and parenting techniques you should use to raise a healthy, well-adjusted child. However, despite being so central to the general well-being of children, there nevertheless exists many myths, rumours and half-truths about pediatrics and what the practice entails.

Perhaps this is unsurprising to some – we do live in an age where access to the internet means unfettered access to all kinds of information and misinformation about anything and everything.

While you’re free to take what we tell you with a pinch of salt, and such an attitude towards what you read online is to be commended, here are a few surprising facts about pediatrics you probably didn’t even realize until now.

Pediatrics Has a Cut off Age

After over a decade and a half of visiting the same pediatrician whenever your child has a complaint, it may come as something of a shock when, one day, the doctor suddenly refers you to someone completely new. This is because pediatric doctors have a point where they can no longer see a patient anymore. While this may be expected from the fact that the doctor specializes in treating children, the point at which a patient is no longer considered a child is not always so obvious.

In general, a pediatric clinic will stop seeing a patient at around 16 years of age, after which they’re considered suitable to seek out their own medical advice independently. Instead, they will refer the patient to another doctor.

Pediatrics Tend to be Proactive

While a pediatrician will, of course, treat a child once they’ve fallen ill or become injured, they try to maintain a more proactive and preventive approach. This will mean things such as keeping up to date with vaccinations, making sure the child has a balanced diet and providing advice about how to prevent accidents and injuries.

If the pediatrician does give you advice about the health and safety of your child, we recommend that you take it into serious consideration. While you shouldn’t necessarily mindless follow everything they say, they are speaking as experienced professionals with an interest in your child’s health and happiness. If they recommend a course of action, it’s a good idea to take it.

You Can Select a Pediatrician

If you’re expecting a child or you’re planning to adopt, you can choose which pediatrician you will go to before the child’s arrival. If anything, being choosy about your child’s doctor is a good practice, as you can be more assured that the doctor is one you want treating your child.

Before deciding on a pediatric clinic, take your time to examine all your available options. Most clinics will usually allow you a free consultation meeting with the doctor in question, so take this opportunity to ask questions and gauge how they may perform as a family doctor.

Pediatrics is not For Minor Cases

If your child suffers a grazed knee or a cold, then you don’t take them to the pediatric clinic, even if the child is very young. That’s more the purview of a GP. They’re more suitable for the general day-to-day illness and accidents that a child may encounter, and you’ll only ever encounter a pediatric if the problem is chronic or particularly serious. As such, if your child is running a fever or a particularly nasty cough, call your GP first. If the injury or illness is more severe, that would be when you’d want to head to a pediatric urgent care center like Night Lite.

KidsEmail Review: Protect Your Child

As the internet becomes an essential part at work and the household, the safety and security of children are put on the line.  Young children to teenagers are hooked up in the internet.  May it be for school use or just to go with the trend, the truth of the matter is that, the internet is as alluring to children as it is to grown ups. It, being an open source of virtually everything under the sun, puts children in great danger.  We’ve all read of horrible stories about children missing, molested, raped, kidnapped, or subject to sex trafficking directly or indirectly involving internet use.  Aside from these, obscene videos, photos, other graphic materials, and inappropriate words are all over the internet which are all total nightmares to parents.

The dilemma is; how will you keep your child safe from all of these, in this internet-necessitated times?

Actually there are more work to be done on this matter.  However, there are websites that are absolutely child-friendly, safe and sheer heaven-sent for parents.  One of these is Email for Kids, which I straight out love and strongly recommend to parents.  Let me talk you through its fantastic features.

kidsemail3

First off, you have to get yourself and your child an account which will only take a jiffy.

REGISTRATION

Go to www.kidsemail.org to create an account, which is as easy as 1-2-3. Make sure you enter a valid email for the necessary instructions to activate your account. After your account is activated, you will be taken to the Parental Control Panel where you can add the accounts for your children.

ADDING CHILDREN

Adding Children is very easy. One of the cool features of Kids Email is that it can actually grow with your child. There is a simple option for you to have a standard child account which will give your child an @kidsemail.org address, or there is an option for an older child that will have an e-mail of @kmail.org with an older look and feel. This is a great tool that allows your kids to keep their email address even through pre-teen and teen years. This is a setting that can be switched at any time.

The best part is the Parental Control. You will definitely have full control of the accounts!  Now, I know this might cause some privacy issue for some, but a child’s safety should always outweighs any other issues.

So, what are its great features?

and more….

kidsemail7

Just look how cute the themes are, my daughter chose the Princess theme. So her email looks like this.

Email for kids is a sure way of protecting your children while giving them their freedom.  Kids Email is already pre-loaded in Click N Kids Tablet 2, Kurio Xtreme, and Kurio Phone for Kids. It can be used in all iOS, Android, and Web platforms. For more information connect with them at FACEBOOK, TWITTER, PINTEREST, GOOGLE +, LINKEDIN, and their BLOG.

Do you think these features are enough for you to give your child his freedom?

World Book Day 2015

World Book Day

I remember an incident when I was young, my father and an American traveler were exchanging facts about the countries in Asia.  They, particularly had a long discussion about Singapore.  After awhile the American traveler asked my father about other places he has gone to.  My Dad said he has never been to any places outside the Philippines. The foreigner was like “damn, you talked as if you’ve gone to those places!”  Then he answered, “I read them from Reader’s Digest!

Today’s World Book Day, if you haven’t read a book in your life, it’s not too late.  Now is definitely a good start.

Empowered Kids Corner: Following Dad’s Footsteps

Great things start from small beginnings.

Most often than not success whatever its magnitude is, always begin with a small step forward.  This tiny effort may seem insignificant, easy but it actually makes a whole lot of difference; and could be difficult and a scary thing to do. It takes courage, support from loved ones, and a bit of “You’re dong great!”,”Keep up the good job!” here and there.

Summer showed a flair for photography early on.  Whether it is a prognostic sign of the future or just a momentary hobby she finds interesting, my husband and I see to it that she is encouraged and given every opportunity. She enjoys tagging along with her Dad’s photography group SOMCHAI Studios .

Kids usually obey and take heed of advises from people they trust.  Fear and doubt hinder this.  That is why parents and teachers play a crucial role. If we could only create an environment of acceptance, encouragement, and trust for all children, then, they would surely reach great things.

What do you think of Summer’s photos?

What small beginnings have your children started?

This corner showcases all the creative things our little ones do, captured in photos. Be featured here by submitting your kid’s photos at mitchelle.juaban@gmail.com with a description.
