A fact is a specific detail that is true based on objective proof. A fact is discovered. An opinion is an interpretation, value judgment, or belief that cannot be proved or disproved. An opinion is created.
3 Questions to ask to test if a statement is factual
- Can the statement be proven or demonstrated to be true?
- Can the statement be observed in practice or operation?
- Can the statement be verified by witness, manuscripts, or documents?

Here are some things Uncle Tony said in his letter. Which ones are facts and which are Uncle Tony’s opinions? Circle the word “fact” or the word “opinion.”
