Exercise is very important. It is a must for everyone. It improves ones physical shape, body’s immune system, and ones over-all mood. But some people find exercise boring, and that there is no time to fit it in their schedule. Outdoor gyms, which are innovative, ingenious and revolutionary, brought exercising to a whole new level. An outdoor environment has an innate natural healing power, which is attained if one is in contact with it. It is a refreshing change from the claustrophobic, cramped up ambiance of an indoor gym.
Here are four reasons why exercising outdoors is a better idea.
1. ACCESSIBILITY. Since outdoor gyms are installed in schools, special needs playgrounds, urban regeneration, parish green spaces, trim trails, pensioner’s playground, schools and recreation, and even prison yard, ACCESSIBILITY is easy. In terms of time, on a nice day, one can exercise at his most convenient time alone or with friends. Tight work schedules are no longer an excuse to miss an exercise since outdoor gyms are open 24/7. In terms of finances, most outdoor gyms are free. Others may charge a small fee for maintenance. Exercise is a necessity for a healthy mind and body. It should not be expensive.
2. FRESH AIR and NATURE. Some indoor gyms decorations try to emulate nature by putting ornamental plants, playing ocean sound, or showing forest in a big screen. But of course, nothing beats natural fresh air and real nature around. It is refreshing to exercise in an open space breathing fresh air from the trees and grasses. It wipes out the boredom that easily creeps in you while exercising indoor.
3. BEING WITH A COMMUNITY. As the saying goes, the more the merrier. Exercise should be fun. Something that one enjoy doing and not forced into doing. If one exercises together with a community of fellow enthusiasts, then who needs a walk-man/cd players/i-pods to accompany you through your routine.
4. ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY. Outdoor gyms are low in maintenance. So on a larger scope, exercising outdoor means less energy consumption and less to zero pollution. Thus, energy-conserving and eco-friendly.

We have those outdoor exercise equipments installed in most parks around Dubai. It’s nice to see how many people really engage to outdoor exercises. During colder climate here, there are even open door yoga sessions for free. Really nice!
I wish there is a park near where I live so we can do outdoor activities more often.

In my opinion, i feel outdoor exercising is natural and more effective. Jogging in greenery, would definitely feel more refreshing compared to a threadmill inside an airconditioned room.
I couldn’t agree more. The satisfaction one feels after an exercise outdoor is definitely better than indoor.
I agree that outdoor exercise is beneficial (fresh air is so good for us) but I also think that every type of exercise no matter where you do it is beneficial for the health and fitness.
Totally agree…outdoor exercise is so important! I try to run 4 days a week outside, pushing my son in the jogging stroller. Then we stop at the playground afterwards, so he can run around and play. It’s so beneficial for both of us!
Nothing beats workout out outdoors! Love the fresh air and beautiful scenery while working up a sweat! Makes the time go so much faster!

I really miss doing these things since I quit dancing. Planning to go back again because I think my body need this old routine of mine.
I really wish my village had one of those outdoor exercise facilities. Anyway, I’ve seen those around in Mall of Asia. I’ve also tried being in one when I visited my in-laws in Singapore. They had an outdoor area where exercise equipment were installed on the ground, which were super fun to use.
Outdoor gyms are also very popular in Thailand. Exercise isn’t boring if you are outside with friends and other people.

i agree with you, outdoor gyms provide another venue where kids can enjoy exercise with a plus of having that opportunity to make the bonding extra ordinary. the one in QC memorial circle is very good, though my only concern is sanitation as many children and families frequent there, sometimes leaving their garbage and the like.
Exercise in a gym if miles far from doing it outdoor. You are very right with #2, fresh air and the smell of freshly cut grass is relaxing.
