However there are still things and great places even budget travellers would enjoy in Prathum Wan. One is exploring the entire place on foot. Totally cheap, right? Thanks to skywalk system in the city, one could actually hop from one block to the other without having to pay a ride. Everything is just a walk away. I have done it so can you. Another, having places where one could buy gifts and souvenirs for people back home.  Although Prathum Wan is popular for its luxurious shopping centers, it also has places that sell products at very affordable prices. So let’s take a tour.

Here are four awesome places where you could avail for great deals and definitely get your moneys worth.

I bought these 4 novelty shirts for my family for only 600 baht ($18)

1. The famous Platinum Fashion Mall. This is popular among Thai business owners and youngsters. The mall has got everything from children apparel and toys to fashionable clothes and accessories retail and wholesale, all organized in their six storey building which is only a five minute walk from Central World.

2. Mahboonkrong (MBK) Shopping Center is an eight storey building packed with anything and everything that you have in mind. It is not as glitzy as the chain of Siam Centers opposite it, but it sure has its own charm especially for those looking for 30% to 50% discounted products. Trendy  clothings, shoes, handbags, jewelries are found at the lower floors. Toys and electronics are found at the third and fourth floors, and home furnishings, gifts, and souvenirs at the fifth and sixth floors. 3D trick museum on the top floors which I have to explore the next time I go with my family.

Bought this Mr. Sexy shirt for my hubby ($6)

3. Miniso @Mercury Ville. Miniso is a famous Japanese brand at the third floor of Mercury Ville. They have got colorful choices of wallet, coin purse, handbags, towels, stuff toys, slippers, perfume, electronic headset, and many more. Prices range from 69 to 169 baht (a little over 2 to 5 dollars).

Bought several cute coin purses for friends and collegues (only $2)

Prathum Wan is one of the seven districts of Bangkok. If you happen to be in this part of the city for a holiday or business then it is worth exploring the place. Prathum Wan is quite a small district compact with so many infrastructures. Everything is just a walk away. It is considered as the center of commerce in Bangkok. This district is inundated with some of the most attractive and must go to places for tourists.

Here are some interesting places to go to in Prathum Wan Bangkok.

  • Erawan Shrine or the “Shrine of Lord Brahma the Great” at Ratchaprasong intersection, Prathum Wan district in Bangkok is brimming with worshippers both locals and tourists all day long. There is loud music and gaiety dancing by resident dance troupes hired by worshippers. The statue Phra Phrom
was enshrined in the 1950’s and have undergone renovations twice since then.

  • Indulge yourself shopping at posh shopping malls around. In Prathum Wan there is never a shortage of imported and luxury products as shopping malls are found everywhere. The famous Central World and Isetan occupying the entire left side of Ratchaprasong Road and Gaysorn Plaza, Narayana and Big C on the right. And the luxurious Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery Center on Rama 1 Road, and just across are Siam Square One, and MBK Center. Central Chidlom is on Chidlom Road opposite Rama 1, also along this road are chains of malls less popular than the first ones but still plush nevertheless, Amarin Plaza, Maneeya Center, and Mercury Ville.
Central World’s main entrance facing Ratchaprasong Road.
Isetan Shopping Center with Trimurti Shrine (god of love ) and Ganesh Shrine (god of success)

  • Visit Chulalongkorn University. It was established in 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama V) and was named after his father Rama VI, King Chulalongkorn who is considered as the father of modern education in Thailand. It is a pretty big university with 19 faculties 23 colleges and research institutes.
    CU Book Center.

  • Lumphini Park is at the corner of Rama IV and Ratchadamri road. More than half a million squares big, it is home to some exotic flora and fauna. It is a go to after a long days work or an easy getaway from the busy city life. People could choose to just chill out under tree shades, or engage in Tai chi, aerobics, jogging, biking, rowing, or paddleboat ride. What’s great about this is, it’s free, ideal for budget travellers.

  • National Stadium. Supachalasai National Stadium is located at Rama 1 behind Mahboonkrong Center (MBK). At present local football matches are held there, but it had its fair share of exciting and eventful history, Michael Jackson performed there twice during his Dangerous World Tour. And it was the main stadium for several Asian Games and AFC Asian Cup.
