Koh Nang Kham Grand Canyon (แกรนด์แคนยอนเกาะนางคำ), also known as “Bodin” or “Napa” by the locals, is located in Bankohnangtong village, Kohnangkham sub-district, Pakpayun district, Phatthalung province. The Koh Nang Kham Grand Canyon is considered a new landmark of Phatthalung. The highlight of this place is a stunning stone cliff with unusual rock formations, set in a broad and tranquil field ideal for leisure.

Back in the day, this location was known as “Khuansaotong,” and it served as a reminder to navigators that they were going to arrive at Pak Payun. This mountain is rather tall, so the navigators can see it well from the lake. In fact, if you ascend to the highest peak, you will be able to take a glimpse of Songkhla Lake, which surrounds this island. You can also see the opposite villages, Ban Rakang and Ban Tahin, both of which are in Songkhla. Later, soil, rocks, and other minerals were quarried leaving these enormous, unusually shaped rock formations as we see it in the present. This location is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in Koh Nang Kham. Locals and tourists alike frequently visit this place. Some come here alone, while some come with friends, or with their families. The majority of them come to snap photos, picnic, or go on a walk.

Aside from the amazing strange stone, there is also a steep incline that challenges the local resident bikers and cyclists from other villages or provinces to come here to ride bicycles. Furthermore, during the rainy season, the marsh at this place is filled with sparkly emerald water. This, together with the colorful rocks underneath, creates a very magnificent sight. Kids around the neighborhood come here to swim with their friends. Some people come with their picnic baskets and enjoy a meal or a drink, and others come to unwind and enjoy the moment.

Koh Nang Kham Grand Canyon is one of the most remarkable sights in Phatthalung because of its unusual rock formation, and with its lush greenies around it provides a pleasant ambiance that is ideal for recharging your lungs. Having gained popularity, it is frequented by visitors time and again. Now, Koh Nang Kham sub-district municipality intends to develop it more comfortably, and the villagers believe that Koh Nang Kham Grand Canyon will serve as a landmark of their community and make other people more familiar with Koh Nang Kham in the future.

Wang Sai Thong Waterfalls: Satun Thailand

Destination: Wang Sai Thong

Location: Nam Phut, La-ngu District, Satun 91110 (7°05’23.4″N 99°54’35.1″E

Wang Sai Thong falls is a great place to freshen up from the scorching hot weather of the summer.  This beautiful waterfalls known for its limestone minerals calcified on rocks, pool basin, and fallen tree branches is located at Moo 10, Baan Whang Na-Nai | Nam Phut, La-ngu, Satun Thailand 91110.  It is an hour and a half drive from Hatyai City. It is off the beaten track and going there without any help from a GPS, a map, or some friends who have been there could be a little confusing as there are numerous turnings as you enter the road going to La-ngu and away from the main road. For first timers, it’s better to venture this place with a GPS, or a detailed map, or be with people who know the area.

It has three levels of cascading, very cold waterfalls which drops into a wide pool of flowing fresh water.  What sets this waterfalls apart from other waterfalls in the south of Thailand is the presence of calcified limestone minerals on rocks, pool basin, and fallen tree branches; so your feet grip on to these which makes climbing up and going down easy and safe.  Aside from this, the pool at the foot of the waterfall are definitely wide but are not deep so it is safe even for kids to stay, play, and splash water around.

The waterfall is hidden under canopies of big, tall trees so it is a good place to picnic with family and friends as the place remain cool all throughout the day.

The place is open 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday.  It has a souvenir shop and restrooms which they need to improve immensely.

To give you a visual of the place take a look at this video.

Exotic Foot Spa

Who wants a foot spa?

What do you have in mind?

…jojoba oil, olive oil, Vitamin E, lavender oil, tea tree foot soak, peppermint, lemon foot soak…
Do you have a favorite foot spa salon or do you want to do it at home?
A few weeks back, my students and I went to songkhla aquarium for an educational tour. As locals here they definitely know the place better than I do. They introduced me to this exotic foot spa where they frequently come. It is a fish foot spa to be exact. I couldn’t have imagined a foot spa in an aquarium park.  But anyway, it’s,  I think,  creative somehow as it doubly boosts tourism in this place.  While the kids are enjoying inside the aquarium Mom and Dad could have a bit of a bonding in the fish foot spa, or all the family members could enjoy this after a tiring tour inside the aquarium.

In a fish foot spa you are going to soak your feet in a tank of water for 20 to 30 minutes. In just a few seconds your feet will be swarmed by fish nibbling at your feet. This dead-skin-nibbling fish are called garra rufa popularly known as Doctor fish. If you’re ticklish then you’ll have endless time giggling.  I did not try it though I got scared. My imagination went overdrive lol. I thought of the movies “Piranha” and “Jaws”.  Yeah I know it’s really a bit too much of me to think that. Despite the realization of the superfluousness of my imagination, I still could not bring myself to do it. On a serious note, I had a bit of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) syndrome attack. I was not particularly sure if they change water in the tank. If they do, how often? What if I precede someone who has athletes foot for example.  Anyway,I was just being cautious.

My kids had a blast.

It was approved by their parents. So I did not stand in the way of their enjoyment. ^_^
