Hotel Review: Phutara Lanta Resort Koh Lanta Krabi

Accomodation: Phutara Lanta Resort. The best family hotel we have gone to so far.

Location: 693 Moo 2, Saladan,  Koh Lanta Krabi 81150 Thailand
☎: +66980307182

Room: We stayed in one of the Two-Bedroom Luxury Poolside Suites on the second floor of a two-storey  duplex building.  The rooms are huge,  in fact the management allows a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children. It is super clean, tidy,  and well insulated; noise is inaudible even between the two bedrooms in the suite. It is well ventilated with separate air conditioning system for each bedroom.  There are several windows if you opt for fresh air, and a nice patio obscured by trees and vegetation in front. This lovely suite has several lighting options to choose from, big built-in closet,  two flat screen TVs, large wall mounted mirror,  lovely big bathroom, and a mini kitchen equipped with cupboards and standard sized sink. The huge king-sized bed is placed on a sturdy wooden built-in platform,  so the bed sits  firmly on it without rickety or creaking sound which was one of the weaknesses of Nadivana Serviced Apartments in Aonang Krabi.

Amenities: The usual room amenities are available like fridge,  hairdryer,  toiletries, electric kettle, and complimentary stuff;  tea,  coffee, and bottled water. But what really got me was the mini kitchen with sink and cupboards. This is the best family hotel we have gone to so far. It makes all the mommy stuff easy and comfortable.

Pool is big and clean. There’s a proper kid pool, 60 cm deep,  perfect for toddlers and young children.  The adult pool is 130 to 160 cm. deep,  perfect for not so good swimmer like us.😊 The pool is well maintained, we had a great time!

Wifi connection is excellent. We did pretty much everything; movie and video streaming, blogging, online games,  social media engagement. Hatzanda and Lanta Riviera Villa just lost the first spot of the strongest WiFi connection as Phutara’s Wifi connection is awesome. No glitch,  the connection was strong everywhere in the hotel premises and I mean every where. Even in the pool area and the parking lot the connection was great.

Restaurant is located at the second floor of the management building. It is small but clean, and has a nice view of the pool on one side and the lush greeneries on the other. Heavy wooden tables and chairs surround a dainty counter where food are served.

Food. The complimentary breakfast is basic, nothing fancy (like Wake Up Hotel in Aonang Krabi),  but tasty which includes fried rice,  stir-fry noodles,  sliced bread,  eggs,  pancakes,  iced tea, orange juice,  and brewed coffee. Food is freshly cooked,  nothing was re-cooked. They also serve lunch and dinner with varied menus like Indian,  Mexican,  European,  Thai,  Pizzas,  and Steaks. We were told that since it was low season, when we came, they won’t be serving dinner. It was not a problem for us but this may not sit well with other visitors.

Resort ground is elevated a few feet from road level, so one could actually get a pretty good view of Klong Khong beach from a far. It is studded with tall trees, flowers,  and tables and benches.  The ground is tidy, mowed, and flowers are trimmed. A good place to hang out for late afternoon tea or coffee, or have a nice read.

Parking is available onsite.  One in front of the hotel with camera and another behind (no CCTV cam).

Services. Phutara’s staff are friendly,  considerate, and they speak English. So communication is not a problem.

Price: $143 for two nights

Overall: 4.5/5 rating

Hatzanda Lanta Resort Review: Koh Lanta Krabi

It is located at 90 Moo 2, Klong-Khong, Tambol Koh Lanta Krabi. It has 20 clean, beautiful rooms to choose from.  It is a few minute walk from Khong Klong beach, Seven Eleven, and Thai-Malaysian eateries.

Each room is air-conditioned and has its own patio over-looking the hotel’s pool with amenities like fridge, hairdryer, kettle, 4 bottles of water, coffee, flat screen TV, a strong Wifi connection, and toiletries. Bed choices between 2 queen-sized beds or a queen-sized bed and a bunk bed are available. The rooms are spick and span, and the same goes with the bathrooms.

The rectangular pool for adults has a depth of 4 feet to 6 feet. The kids’ pool is shallow and is safe. It is beautiful but it is not well-maintained. The water is somewhat murky.

Parking is available right in front of the property.  Services offered include day tour to different destinations around the island, island hopping packages, and laundry and taxi services for an additional fee.

Hatzanda Lanta Resort, a family-friendly accommodation and with considerate staff, is a great place to stay during the holidays.  It takes under its managerial wings Lanta Riviera Villa Resort, another great, family-friendly resort located in the same property lot as Hatzanda Lanta Resort.

If you are a family looking for a great place to stay, this may be the right place for you. We booked here.

Lanta Riviera Villa Resort Review: Koh Lanta Krabi

Lanta Riviera Villa Resort is a mix-bag of extreme positive and negative points.

We found this resort just a week before the Songkran festival here in Thailand. Every experienced traveler knows that this would spell high prices for every tourist destinations around here. Koh Lanta is no exception as this is one of the most sought out places by tourists during the summer.

Lanta Riviera Villa Resort as advertised online caught our attention as it was one of the cheapest family friendly resort. We booked through Booking.com.

Here are the reasons why we booked it.

The price: The family bungalow cost us a little over 4,000.00 THB which is approximately a bit over 133 USD for three nights during the peak season. This is definitely a great deal.
Family-friendly: Kids as they are, are synonymous to shouting, shrieking, jumping, crying, and boisterous laughs. And we have got two active, super excited kids who could not contain their emotions despite being told to do so and we don’t want to overdo the scolding and rule implementations as it might spoil their holiday but as much as we have all the rights to be there, we also want to be considerate with the other guests. So detached accommodations like bungalows are really suitable.
Kid’s pool:   For our kids a holiday is not a holiday without a pool.  So it is a must.
Bunk bed:   This was a special request from our kids. It has been their long time wish to have a bunk bed or at least to experience sleeping on one (blame it on Peppa Pig) and luckily, Lanta Riviera Villa Resort has it.

So how was it?

The bungalow is great. It is big enough that it does not feel like you are all cramped inside. As a matter of fact, even with a queen-sized bed, a bunk bed and a big couch, it is still spacious.  It was clean. There were no dust and or dirt under the furniture.  The bathroom was clean and is fairly spacious. All amenities that come with it like the fridge, kettle, flat-screen TV, Wi-Fi, hairdryer, and air-con all work perfectly. There are the usual freebies like coffee, 4 bottles of water, and toiletries. It has a veranda and a garden in front with plants that give the bungalow a private feel to it.

Did I mention they have Free Wi-Fi? Oh I’d like to emphasize that their internet services is by far the best among all the hotels we have had the experience of staying. Even the pricier ones can’t hold a candle to this resort in terms of internet services. All three gadgets we brought along logged in without any hitch and the internet speed felt premium.

Parking: There is an open space for parking right in front of the property. Even though it’s unguarded it felt safe as the Information’s office is right beside it and open 24 hours a day. There are no proper parking demarcations so cars are parked however people preferred it.  So it was quite messy. And if you are a bit fuzzy about your fancy car it might be a deal breaker for you since it is a bit muddy when the parking area is wet or very dusty when dry.

The kid’s pool is neither big nor tiny.  Our kids had a great time hanging around there. It has a heater, which is really great, so the water is warm which is ideal especially for kids during an evening swim and it’s something we think every pool must have

But of course nothing is ever perfect and so is this resort… which brings me to its possible deal breaker down sides.

The bungalow was very clean as we have mentioned but it however had a faint cigarette smoke odor when we went inside which means that they allow smoking in their bungalows.  We find this very disappointing. They should have a smoking and a non-smoking bungalow as non-smokers would be pretty sensitive to this odor.

The pool is not well maintained as evident by the somewhat murky look of the water. Rules and guidelines for pool use are not enforced.

Getting to the resort was like finding Nemo. Looking for it was just utterly frustrating to the point of disgust. For one the address provided in the website is incorrect, the GPS took us in the middle of the forest, and this is like quite a few kilometers away from where it actually is.  Second, there is not a tiniest signage of some sort visible from the roadside. An hour later after driving back and forth and after asking for directions from people who were also a bit confused as there is another resort with a similar name, one directed us here (see photo please).

Yes, that’s right.  It does not say Lanta Riviera Villa Resort. But right into the alley you will see the resort’s name under another hotel’s name (see photo, in red ink). We later found out that Lanta Riviera Villa Resort is under the management of Hatzanda Lanta Resort. And the name visible on the roadside is Hatzanda (HZD) Lanta Resort. This inconsistency however is not mentioned on their website. Not a slightest hint at all.

If Lanta Riviera Villa Resort is your next travel accommodation, ask the driver to drop you off at Hatzanda Lanta Resort.  If you are driving, type in your GPS: Hatzanda Lanta Resort.

Overall…

Lanta Riviera Villa Resort is a great place for a staycation whether with your family, friends, or by yourself. The villas are in secluded places surrounded by vegetation giving you the privacy you need.  Plus, affordable Thai-Malaysian Eateries and a Seven Eleven are just around the block.
If you can take all the downsides with a smile and if it is not a deal breaker for you Lanta Riviera Villa Resort is a great place to stay.

My Travel List

Thailand is one of the most tourist- friendly countries in Asia. And I don’t only mean the people. The country in itself is very tourist-friendly. Thailand can be traveled with almost all modes of transportation. This country can be traveled by plane, bus or by train. You can choose which mode suits your time and budget constraint. For expat families like us we prefer to go via private transport. Road tripping is the best way to go for us! It is not always the cheapest way to go but most of us here think of the convenience it brings. Well, some might not find sitting in a car for 12 hours convenient. LOL! But, for the expats here, especially our family, prefer the privacy of our own vehicle, the comfort of being the boss and in control of ones time.

Here is a list of places my family and I are planning to travel to. They are not arranged in any particular order. Of the 10 places listed below, two of which we have already gone to.  And we are still planning of going back because it seems as if you just can get enough of these places!

1.  Koh Samui

2.  Koh Lanta

3.  Krabi               √

4.  Koh Chang

5.  Khao Sok

6.  Koh Phi Phi

7.  Koh Lipeh      √

8.  Koh Samet

9.  Koh Pangan

10.  Koh Tao
