Helpful Tips for Losing That Baby Weight

Happen to stare at yourself in the mirror after giving birth and wonder, “Where did my body go?” All women find themselves in this position. After carrying your child around for nine months, your body has taken quite the beating. Your baby has all but drained you and left behind stretch marks and a few pounds that you didn’t have prior to getting pregnant. You barely recognize the woman in the mirror, and as tired as you are from caring for your newborn you just really want to get back to a healthy weight.

Though it would be nice to just snap back into place after having a child that isn’t always the case. To get rid of the excess baby weight you’ll need to adopt more healthy lifestyle choices. Keep in mind, however, that everyone’s body is different. As eager as you are to bounce back to your pre-baby weight, it can take time so don’t beat yourself up. Here is some advice on how to get rid of that baby weight.

Breastfeed

Nature seems to have a way of helping you to get your body back without much effort. For mothers who have chosen to breastfeed, you’ll be surprised to see your waistline decreasing as the weeks go on. Though it is recommended that breastfeeding women consume more calories to provide the body with energy to produce milk, those calories are being burned during the feedings. You won’t see drastic results, but it is a great start to your weight loss journey.

Pilates

Are you tired of staring at that baby pouch you’ve got going on now? Well, once you’ve been given the stamp of approval by your doctor, you can try pilates to get rid of it. Working heavily on the core, there are various techniques that help women who have just given birth to strengthen those ab muscles again. Just be careful as going too fast too quickly can cause injury. There are surprising benefits to pilates toe socks and athleisure workout gear to help make you as comfortable as possible.

Skip Refined Carbs, Sugars, and Processed Foods

After having your baby it’s not uncommon to still have those crazy pregnancy cravings you used to have. As tempting as it might be to get those french fries with ice cream or double cheeseburger with extra pickles, you have to be mindful of what you’re eating. Try to stick to a diet that’s low in refined carbs, sugars, and processed foods. Eating organic and clean foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy fats are recommended. The good news is there are tons of food products and online recipes for healthy alternatives to your favorite cravings.

Get Some Rest

Okay, okay, this one might seem like a joke, but it’s necessary. Somehow, you have to find a way to get more sleep into your day. Did you know that your body actually burns calories when you sleep? If you don’t get enough of it, unfortunately, you don’t burn as many calories. Not to mention, lack of sleep reduces the amount of energy your body has to burn calories throughout the day. Poor sleep also increases your appetite, increases your urge for cravings, and increases your calorie intake causing your body to produce stubborn fat that is hard to get rid of. So, ask hubby to pitch in, older siblings, your parents, or even hire a night nanny for a few weeks to get those eight hours of sleep.

The last bit of advice for women trying to lose that baby weight is to not stress over it. Stress isn’t good on your body and can also cause weight gain. Just relax and go with the flow. You’ve just given birth which is a serious medical procedure and your body needs time to heal. Using the above tips at your own pace can help you get back to your pre-baby weight before long.

Kayaking: What You Need to Bring

One of the major outdoor activity we had recently was kayaking. Kayaking is to move across a body of water through a kayak, which is low-to-the-water with double blade paddles, and paddlers sits forward with legs in front. Kayaking started with the Inuit as a way for hunting and fishing. And through the years kayaking became a sport, and nowadays people kayak for recreational purposes. In our case, we kayaked in a river called Wang Sai Thong in Langu district, Satun, Thailand. This is the major activity in this part of Satun, Thailand.

Satun is one of the provinces in Southern Thailand, rich with natural beauty and resources like lush green rainforest, waterfalls, caves (Phu Pha Phet and Chet Cot); rivers, and a must go beaches; one of these is Koh Lipeh. Aside from this, the “disappearing tribe” of Thailand called the Sakai tribe can also be found here.

We went kayaking with our children, and of course they were beyond themselves with excitement. The first time we went there, they were still too young to go on a kayak. But this time, we thought they could already handle it, since the water was not so rough. If it was, we would not risked it for sure.

Having gone there, done it; here are some of the things that we found important.

1. Bring your own kids life jackets. Usually life jackets are available and are provided by the accommodation, however,  the sizes may not be the right fit. It is essential that life jackets fit, otherwise it could be uncomfortable and could possibly ruin the moment. And also it could restrict movement as well as block ones view of the surroundings. And another thing, if you are super particular about hygiene I think having your own life jacket is a great idea.

2. Wear a comfortable attire.  Most of the kayaks used here are sit-on-top,  with the foot rest almost the same level as the seat. So wearing jean shorts or other attire made of stiff fabric can be very uncomfortable and could cause abrasions on the skin. Cottony shirts and shorts are fine. Beachwears like top-bottom set,  burquini-type and wet suite-type beachwears are also great. One-piece or bikinis might be a little too much for the culture here,  and besides it won’t give so much protection in case the kayak tips over.

3. Anti-mosquito lotion. The place is surrounded by greeneries and water; two things mosquitoes love the most. Protect yourself from malaria and other diseases brought by mosquitoes. Anti-mosquito lotion is available in convenience stores and other SkinStore.

4. Pain relieving ointments. You would find this really handy and helpful as muscles would be stiff and sore the next day or even a few hours after. Wang Sai Thong river is 7 to 10 kilometers long, this could be a lot for the not so trained muscles.

5. Water-proof camera. Yes, yes, yes! Document every moment of it, every scream, every laughter; capture the emotions, the beauty, as well as the risks.

Oh by the way, the kayaks are generic. There are no special kayaks for our little ones. That’s why our children had to go with a guide.

Have you gone kayaking? Where? How was the experience?

Mom on a Budget Strikes Again: Four-Ingredient No-Churn Avocado Moringa Powder Ice Cream

Avocado Moringa Powder Ice Cream

We are a family of ice cream monsters. Yes all of us! We simply love ice cream. On special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and the Yuletide season, ice cream is a mainstay. An occasion would not be complete without ice cream.

Although commercial ice cream is affordable and can be easily bought from almost all supermarkets and convenience stores, I still want to try my hands on it. Anyways, it is possible nowadays to do it at home without any fancy machine. And of course there are hundreds of recipes available online, thanks to so many foodie bloggers out there.

I surfed the internet for a recipe that fits my finances. I found just what I need from Kirbie’s Cravings; her recipe only has three ingredients (avocado, condensed milk, and heavy cream). However, heavy cream on this part of the world is a luxury; it is so damn expensive! Since I’m a mom on a budget, I used evaporated milk together with the condensed milk instead of heavy cream. And I gave it a bit of a personal touch by putting in Moringa powder which my children did themselves. This is one creative way to feed Moringa to your child.

So here it is.

Avocado Moringa Powder Ice Cream

Ingredients

1 big avocado (mango)

1 can condensed milk

1 can evaporated milk

Moringa powder (quantity depends on your preference)

Procedure

In a blender, add avocado, condensed milk, evaporated milk, and Moringa powder. Then hit that button.

Make sure everything is well blended. Freeze until solid, but give it a stir every now and then to prevent it from crystallizing. If you forget, it’s fine as long as it is well blended, it will still turn out delicioso!

Are you a big ice cream fan? Do you have any easy ice cream recipe I could try?
