Summer and Mickey Mouse

Summer loves “The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” videos in YouTube   She watches endless episodes every Saturday.  After several weeks, she can already participate and answer Mickey’s questions.  One day I was overjoyed about something i was doing, when she burst out saying  “Oh boy!!”.  I was surprised, and realized that she got that from the mickey mouse videos.

I am actually happy because it shows that somehow she understood what she was watching.

A friend of mine reminded me to expose Summer to diverse children’s shows. She told me about her “reception pupil”(Kindergarten 2) who watched Dora The Explorer  ONLY.  What happened was she talks like Dora. And she’s afraid Summer might end up talking like mickey mouse! LOL.

What does your kid love watching?

  1. My 1-year old loves watching Hi5 (the original crew) and the Bubble Guppies. She also likes the 90s kiddie shows: Play School and The Rockets Club (in Australian Network). I think your friend is right because my toddler has this Australian accent when she speaks in English. Haha! Nakakagulat lang.

    1. Oh wow, it’s really amazing how kids can learn/ acquire skills and knowledge. That kid my fried was talking about is actually Thai, and neither of the parents can speak English. And yet she speaks very good English with no Thai accent. It’s just that she sounds like Dora. lol

    1. I also agree that kids should not be exposed to too much media may it be in tvs or internet. That is why Summer’s tv time is limited. I also have different books at home in the hope that this exposure will lead to love for reading.

  2. My baby’s one and half years old only, AAP discouraged letting 2 years old below watch tv’s as the moving objects and fast scene transitions aren’t good for their brain development.

So I’m kinda guilty with this as I let her watch when she was 15 months old. I’ve no yaya or helper kasi. But I chose Blues Clues as the movements are really slow and has minimal scene transitions.

And then just last month we introduced high 5, we only let her watch their dance hits and my baby loves imitating their dances.

  3. Haha, don’t worry, your kid won’t end up talking like Mickey Mouse. My daughter used to watch that show too but now she’s more into Doc Mcstuffins and Agent OSO. Let your baby watch shows like Hi-5. I’m sure she’ll love it.

The other day, my husband was talking to our daughter and then she said, “whatever” in a sing-songy voice. It was actually cute. She got it from Squidworth of Sponebonge Squarepants.
